One Day (2011)

Film One- One Day

So it wasn't just one blog I was neglecting, it was two!!!
This term, with going to a new school, starting a serious year in high school just hogged my free time and never had a time to spare for films. I know, excuses excuses...
Well this blog was set up by me to feedback on the latest movies I view. Well, I'm in my holiday period so my goal is to update every day of the Holidays to introduce heaps and heaps of films:)

Day One couldn't of started with a better film than One Day

Plot: Emma ( Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess) begins a relationship that is constantly wobbling between love and friendship a day after graduating college. They met on 15th of July 1988, and their journey is told over a twenty-year long time span. She an aspiring author/ poet whether as he is a handsome play boy who is a T.V. host for a popular show in Britain. They travel through the highs and lows together and eventually finds the answer for all their problems in life.

Critics: "There's not really a chance to go very deep here, but the two leads are so strong that they make us believe in them anyway"- Margret Pomeranz 3.5/5
"The leads work well together but are held back by cheap sentimentalism when we should be on a journey with the characters."- James Luxford 2/5

Suki: I confess that I am a big fat marshmallow when it comes to romantic drama genre. I was expecting niagra falls out of my eyelids but surpringly enough, not one tear was shed. Furthermore, I didn't feel the sobbing feeling in my guts once throughout this film. On the cover of the disk it is quoted by Harpers Bazzar saying "must see romantic epic' well, epic and romantic yes- but a must see? Hmmmm... maybe with your girlfriends post- breakup party with heaps of buttered popcorn.

I absolutely loved every costume and most definatly will be creating an outfit post inspired by it on modequin. The difference of the centuries and the genereations are a huge elment through out the film and the costuming catch every time period perfectly. The different outfit sytles also represent the character's personality. I want every single pair of sunnies they wear!!!

I wasn't fond of the story establishment....It wasn't clear as to why the connection between the two is so dramatic and so brilliant. I could feel the tension but I never understood why it caused it in the first place. Anne Hathaway is drop dead gorgeous and I think she should always have seriously short hair now after i saw the scene in Paris. I do love her and feel strongly that she is super talented but I feel that they could of casted an English women.

This was my first film seeing Jim Sturgess in a film, and I think I fell in love with his gentleman face and physique... His smile is jaw dropping and naughty at the sametime, which sizzle my back. Too bad his 30. His youthful time in the film was my favourtie. I think his posh accent and his mannerism just knowcked me away into outer universe. I suppose I can pretend I didn't see Dex's 30 oor more seperate lovers...

Overall, it was a bit of a cliche and please ladies, watch it with friends not guys ( I am 100% sure that they'll fall asleep or just moan about the love aspect).  It is a cute movie with a touching moral at the end. It made me think about my future and what could possibly happen. The costume is spectacular  and the scenary is beautiful. The actors are talented and it was a sweet film. - 3.5/5
